Fall 2026 Community Update

Posted: October 29, 2026

A Message from our Board Chair, Carol Kraft

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Saugeen Hospice Inc., I am pleased to share an exciting milestone: the Ontario Ministry of Health has officially confirmed that we can move forward with construction of our new hospice residence.

After years of planning, fundraising and preparation, construction has begun!

This is a major step forward for Saugeen Hospice and for the communities that have supported this vision for so many years.

You helped make this possible

This achievement belongs to our entire community.

It reflects the extraordinary generosity and commitment of our donors, volunteers, Board members past and present, fundraising committees and partners.

We are grateful to the municipalities, local businesses, service clubs, faith groups, charitable foundations, community organizations, health-care partners, professional advisers and government representatives who have helped bring us to this moment.

Above all, it reflects the belief and support of countless individuals and families who share our vision of bringing compassionate hospice residence care closer to home.

Our construction funding update

From the beginning, our volunteer Board has been guided by a clear community mandate: to build a hospice residence closer to home and lead the fundraising effort needed to build, open and sustain it.

Throughout the campaign, we communicated an estimated construction cost of approximately $10 million, with the final budget to be established through the required competitive tendering process immediately before construction.

That process is now complete.

  • Construction budget: approximately $11 million
  • Remaining construction funding gap: $2.1 million

The funding gap represents the difference between funds raised and pledged to date and the cost of construction. Closing this gap is our immediate priority.

Building is the first step

As construction moves forward, we are also looking ahead to everything needed to welcome our first residents.

Beyond construction, additional funds will be required for furniture, medical and operating equipment, staffing, supplies, opening preparations, working capital and ongoing operations.

As foundations are poured and walls begin to rise, your continued support will help carry this project from vision to opening our doors—together.
